With a 1-1 draw after extra time the game went to penalties. Merton Court won 4-3 with Billy scoring the winning penalty.

An excellent hard working performance which was particularly impressive as we had lots of last minute injuries, plus excellent opposition to play.

Date: 11.11.21

Yeargroup: S4

Opposition: West Lodge

Mr Jones had the pleasure of taking our S4 football squad to a fixture with West Lodge.

Having fought our way through some heavy Sidcup High Street traffic we arrived just in time to get ourselves organised and warmed up.

The team played positively throughout and were very comfortable working together in their formation. They implemented their simple game play for the day, which was to take lots more shots on goal!

They were rewarded almost immediately with a goal from a wide angle from Elijah. Elijah followed this up with a second goal and was supported on the goal scoring front by Rishi and Charlie who both scored two each to make the final score 6-0.

This was the team’s first win of the season and showed the rewards of positive team-work. The boys can look forward to another game in the next round of the cup after Christmas.

Player of the Day: Charlie Wilson

Date: 13.10.21

Yeargroup: S4

Opposition: Eastcote Primary

Mr Jones and Mr Mullin had the pleasure on Wednesday of taking our S4 football squad to a fixture with Eastcote Primary.

We arrived early giving Mr Mullin some time for a great warm up and chat about team tactics. We started brightly but unfortunately conceded three goals in the first half from long balls “over the top” that were well finished by the Eastcote attack.

The team played positively and maturely passing the ball well and looking to create opportunities for each other. Unfortunately, we had one of those days were if we had played for four hours we probably wouldn’t have scored! We hit the post multiple times and despite having the lion’s share of possession and territory in the second half we simply couldn’t get the ball over the goal line.

The full-time team talk was full of positive comments of how the players had performed and that whilst Eastcote were worthy winners perhaps the score line wasn’t a fair reflection of how well the boys had played.

Everyone contributed positively to the team with Elijah Mwenya our standout player of the day for his powerful runs forward from the right side of defence.

Yeargroup: S4

Opposition: Royal Park

Mr Jones, Mr Egan and Mr Price had the pleasure on Friday of taking our S4 football squad to a fixture with Royal Park School.

We were a little slow to get started and conceded an early goal, but the boys soon got into things and enjoyed playing some positive passing football in what was a very competitive fixture.

Despite conceding a tremendous direct free kick by Royal Park we fought back to take the game to 2-1 with a cracking team goal expertly finished by Rishi.

At half time the boys realised that they were playing a little deep and needed to be more positive and play the game, in the opposition half. As soon as they did this it was a different game with us having lots of possession and territory, but unfortunately we ran out of time and Royal Park were deserved 3-1 winners.

Everyone contributed positively to the team with Freddie Kite our standout player of the day for his tremendous defending at the back.

Player of the Day: Freddie Kite

Squad: Aidan Chan, Tommaso Etemi, Freddie Kite, Rishi Kholsa, Dilan Mehmet, Elijah Mwenya, Vishal Nagasundhar, Oliver Steel-Squires, Charlie Wilson.

Date: 20.9.21

Yeargroup: S4

Opposition: St Dunstan’s & Babington House

Mr Jones and Mr Egan had the pleasure on Monday of taking our S4 football squad to a triangular festival with Babington House and St. Dunstan’s.

It was exciting to see the boys enjoying being back on the pitch playing competitive sports with other schools. Understandably, after such a long break from our last fixture, we took a little while to get going but we were soon playing with confidence and adapting to our “total football” style of formation and player positions.

The boys confidently took the opportunity to play every minute of the two games and played in a variety of positions using a positive passing style.

Game one against St Dunstan’s was a 1-1 draw, with a goal from Elijah Mwenya.

Game two saw a 4-0 win against Babington House, with goals from Freddie Kite, Rishi Kholsa, and Tommaso Etemi (2).

Player of the Day: Rishi Kholsa

An evenly fought contest between two good sides!

Merton Court started the game very strongly, scoring within the first ten minutes of the game from a fantastic strike from Joshua who turned two defenders in the box before calmly slotting the ball home. Louie and Artie dictated the game for most of the first half and their commanding presence at the back meant that Merton Court went into half time with a deserved 1-0 lead.

The second half saw Bickley Park have the majority of the possession and they peppered the Merton Court goal mouth for most of the early stages of the half and if it had not been for two fantastic saves in quick succession from Tom the game would have been level. Despite the relentless defending from Merton Court, Bickley Park finally had their equaliser after a scramble in the box saw the opposition’s striker bundle the ball home. Merton Court dominated the final five minutes of the encounter and Louie almost won his side the game with a strike from 20 yards just clearing the goalkeeper’s crossbar. A fair result well played!

A very close encounter between two local sides. The result could have gone either way. Some heroic keeping from skipper Archie and resolute defending from Joshua, Tyler, Hudson and Max kept the scores level for much of the game.

Only for a lack of concentration and a huge kick from the Farringtons keeper; saw the ball bounce over the Merton Court defenders’ heads into the path of the Farringtons centre forwards to slide home the winner with only minutes to go.

A physical game on the whole. Merton Court now need to improve their resilience and maintain their desire to win the ball throughout the whole game and also convert their chances into goals.

A great game of football to watch with excellent skills and determination on show from both teams.

Bickley Park took the lead only for the tireless Harrison to race down the wing on the counter attack. After cutting inside he pulled the ball back to Damien to equalise with a first time shot.

Bickley scored another two goals only for Damien managing to complete his brace. In the dying moments George nearly round off an amazing comeback only for a fine save from the Bickley Park keeper. In the final Bickley Park attack, they managed to seal their victory with a well taken breakaway goal.

Special mentions must go to Hudson who filled in for injured Goalkeeping Skipper Archie. Joshua for another great defensive display and a Man of the Match performance from Harrison who constantly posed a threat to the Bickley Park defence while managing to consistently track back to help his own.

A solid performance from the whole team. S3 players stepped up and made their case to be selected for the Semi-Final.

Joshua was fantastic in marshalling the defence, keeping the powerful attack of St Peter Chanel at bay.

Mahaan managed to score a brace, with the winner coming in the dying moments of the game.

Harrison must have covered every played of grass on what was a big pitch for a 7-a-side fixture.

An enjoyable game and a lot to look forward to.
