EDI & Cultural Considerations
Merton Court is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all children, staff, parents/carers, and visitors. This commitment involves ensuring freedom from discrimination, stereotyping, and unconscious bias by maintaining zero tolerance for hurtful and unacceptable behaviour. Central to this mission is the promotion of each child’s self-esteem, as well as their social and emotional growth via our strong pastoral care system and broad and balanced curriculum. This includes our Relationships and Health Education (RHE) and Personal, Social and Economic Education (PSE) curriculum. Furthermore, we actively recognise and celebrate the cultural and ethnic diversity of our community, valuing the enrichment this brings, which fosters positive attitudes towards a multi-cultural society. This is supported by promoting positive images and role models and providing multicultural and non-sexist resources to avoid prejudice and raise awareness. Opportunities are also provided to increase religious awareness and understanding, forging links with the wider community, for example visits to places of worship/speaking visitors. We ensure that all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, are never discriminated against by teaching practices and provide a safe place to raise and address any issues dealing with race equality.
