Cross Country
On Monday 6 January 2017, seven U10 & U11 boys from S3 and S4 travelled to Frewen College to run in the Independent Schools Association Cross Country Championships. The boys all ran together in the U11 race with Max Capamagian gaining 3rd place, Toby Barenbrug 16th, Demi Alli 37th, Kevin Cao 39th, Zeka Enver 46th, Bhavandeep Manak 78th and Michael Tobitt 78th. Well done boys!
An outstanding performance from Max Capamagian who qualified for the Nationals which was supposed to take place on Saturday 25 March at Prestwold Hall, Lancashire but unfortunately it was cancelled due to water on the fields.
We ended the Cross Country season with a big home fixture on Wednesday, 8 March with nine schools taking part. There were 270 children running in eight races from Year 3 to Year 6. We had some great performances with Charlie Holland S1C finishing 1st, Oliver Delamain S1R finishing 2nd and Artie Hall S1C in 3rd place. Evie Gannon S1C finished 2nd, Niamh Cartwright S3Me in 5th place and Gabrielle Odey S4B also finishing in 5th place. Max Capamagian completed the season by coming 1st in the S4 boys competition.
A big ‘well done’ to all the children who took part in these events.
We are now looking forward to a summer term of great Athletics.
Most improved runners for last season were, Amy Casey and Joseph Bodie (S1), Isabel Fung and Samuel Cross (S2), Naysa Nganje and Callum Ho (S3) and Elise Knights and Luke McCue (S4).
Well done, also, to Daphne Postlethwaite (J3T) and Joseph Brady (J3T) who were awarded the Junior ‘most promising sportsperson’ awards.
Football Success
S4 boys, Zeka Enver, Toby Barenbrug, Ethan Osei-Bonsu, Michael Truong, Jack Page, Nathan McCready, Michael Tobitt, Jake Chea, Aviraj Lidder and Jimi Fajulugbe were runners-up at the St Michael’s (Cup Final) on 24th March. The team as a whole were a credit to themselves and Merton Court for their never say die attitude when the odds were stacked against them by a ‘Roy of the Rovers’ goalkeeping display from the opposition. Particular mention must go to Zeka Enver who absolutely ran his heart out for the whole game and never gave up, a true captain’s performance leading by example.
Hockey Success
Well done to all those that took part this season. Merton Court had some good wins and were runners-up in the Colfe’s U11’s Tournament out of nine teams, Maryia Alli (c), Menaal Hassan, Gabrielle Odey, Lara Rampersad, Lizzie Tran, Ella Cheshmejoui-Walford and Alice Pritchard. Also, in the St Dunstan’s Tournament, well played Gabrielle Odey, Toby Barenbrug, Max Capamagian, Zeka Enver, Ella Chesmejoui-Walford, Maryia Alli, Nathan McCready, Lara Rampersad and Lucy McNulty who were awarded runners-up medals.
