For our school remembrance service this year we chose the theme of ‘animals in war’. S3 had read Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Warhorse’ in the Summer holidays and had researched the roles that horses, dogs, pigeons & cats had played in the first world war, before they visited the trenches in France and Belgium in September. They applied all of this to our very moving service on Friday 10th November, particularly when singing (acapella) ‘Only Remembered’ from the stage musical ‘Warhorse’ and reciting the poem ‘I spoke to you in Whispers’ by Neil Andrew.
The pupils recalled the lives of several former pupils and a teacher from Merton Court who had served in the Army, Navy or RAF and had paid the ultimate sacrifice.
